WHO ARE SAVE TRIMLEY AGAINST GROWTH
STAG were formed in 2002 following the publication of the first Trinity College “Vision” for the future of the Felixstowe Peninsula. Our aim is to gather the facts with regard to housing needs not just in the Trimley Villages but across the District, liaise with other organisations relevant to our cause, publicise our cause, and present reasoned and convincing arguments as to why there should be no large scale house building on greenfield land around the Trimley Villages.
Save Trimley Against Growth - A Local Action Group To Preserve The Trimley Villages From Unnecessary Large Scale Housing Dvelopments

STAG works in a very informal manner. We have no constitution and no elected officials. A hard core of activists meets once a month, as we have done since 2002, to generally solve the problems of the World, air grievances and gossip - and, when the need arises, spring in to action with regards to the Save Trimley Against Growth Campaign.

Carl Storer is our unofficial Chairman, and a co-opted member of Trimley St Mary Parish Council. Ian Cowan runs the web site and is the only person in living memory to have been elected to Trimley St Martin Parish Council. Barbara Shout is STAG’s official spokesperson and an ex-councillor on Trimley St Mary Parish Council. Frank Bell is an expert on dock matters and a recent Trimley St Martin Parish Councillor. Rosemary Gitsham is Official History recorder for Trimley St Martin and an invaluable source of local knowledge.

In 2002, when the first Trinity College “Vision” was published and there was indignation throughout both the Trimley Villages, STAG had huge support, with many scores of people attending our early meetings. Inevitably, however, regular membership has declined and nowadays only a few people attend out monthly meetings. This is understandable, since after the initial burst of enthusiasm nothing seemed to happen with regards to Trinity’s “Vision” and things went very quiet. The actions of the LDF Task Group have not achieved the same media publicity and have not created similar amounts of indignation.

However, support for STAG still remains, and most residents of both villages are still opposed to large scale housing developments. When the need arises the Trimley Villagers will rise to the challenge and make their voices known. Two small examples serve to demonstrate this -
·
In September 2006 when a vacancy arose on Trimley St Martin parish Council Ian Cowan stood for election and got 154 votes against his nearest competitor’s 36.
·
In March 2007 both Parish Councils organized a joint Public Meeting at which Councillor Andy Smith, Charman of the LDF Task Group spoke. The hall was crowded, with standing room only, with unanimous opposition to the LDF proposals.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO JOIN STAG
STAG meets for an informal drink - and to do some serious plotting - at 7.30 on the last Thursday of every month in The Hand In Hand on the High Road. If you want to know more about STAG, if you have new ideas to contribute, if you want to find out more about us - or if you just want to buy us a drink - you are very welcome to join our very informal gatherings.
“It will be impossible to please everybody.”
